Cole: I never thought Salah would become world-class

Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole has admitted that he never thought Mohamed Salah had enough in him to become a world class player.

Salah and Cole played together for Chelsea in 2014, before they both ended up playing together again for Italian side AS Roma.

Since leaving the Blues, Salah has become one of the world’s best players and has returned to the Premier League in sensational goalscoring form.

As quoted on the Daily Mail, when asked if he ever thought Salah would become world-class, Cole said:

To be honest, no. I saw in training the ability that he had but he seems to have become more ruthless.

I don’t mean selfish in a bad way but he wants to score goals. That’s his job. He needs to score goals.

Him, [Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane all play well together but I think he’s become a little bit more “it’s about me now, it’s my time”. He’s had enough of the other players being in the shadow and he wants to be the main man.

Cole was a guest in the studio for Sky Sports during the Premier League encounter between Liverpool and Chelsea last Sunday at Anfield.
