Gini Wijnaldum ‘continues thinking about’ joining Barcelona, claims report

Gini Wijnaldum ‘continues thinking about’ joining Barcelona in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness].

The 30-year-old’s future is one of the big talking points at the moment, as he mulls over the idea of signing a new deal at Liverpool.

Wijnaldum’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he can leave on a free transfer.

Barcelona have been continually linked with signing the Dutchman and it appears as though the Liverpool midfielder is still tempted to join the La Liga giants.

It would be hard to begrudge Wijnaldum a move to Barca if he wants to join, especially with so many great Dutch players representing the club in the past, especially Johan Cruyff.

The hope is that the Netherlands international decides that signing a new Liverpool deal is his best option, however, considering what a vital player he has been for the Reds.

Wijnaldum has made 210 appearances in the space of four-and-a-half years – to put that into context, Joel Matip has made just 121 in the same time.

His understated brilliance in the middle of the park has allowed more noticeable players to shine around him at Liverpool.

Wijnaldum knits things together beautifully, averaging a 92.3 percent pass completion rate in the Premier League this season.
