One week to go ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Egypt head coach Hector Cuper is currently wishing his key player Mohamed Salah will be in full fitness before the World Cup starts.
The prolific Liverpool winger was crunched in the shoulder by Sergio Ramos while playing the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev.
The former Roma forward was reported to be on the sidelines for more than three weeks by Egyptian Football Federation, and yet was included in the 23-man final squad to represent Egypt in Russia.
Hector Cuper said via Sky Sports:
Salah is in a stage of recovery not just for treatment on his shoulder, we need to improve his demeanour and his fitness level because the injury has prevented him from training as a normal player.
But we have very good news from our doctor, we hope he will be with us before Uruguay (who Egypt face in their opening match on June 15). We are optimists and we are waiting for him.
We hope we won’t be affected, we try to be the same team, we can’t be dependent on one player. He’s important but if he’s not fit in time we will be ready with another player.
This is football, these things can happen to any player. We could need to substitute him, but we hope that won’t be the case.
However, a post from Egypt’s Federation page on Facebook claimed that Mo Salah is showing determination and courage to catch up with his country team-mates ahead of the World Cup and are very aware of his recovery.
Egypt will be facing off against Uruguay, Russia and Saudi Arabia in Group A of the World Cup. According to several football predictions, Egypt should be able to qualify for the knock out stage. However this will be a difficult task if Mohamed Salah doesn’t recover from his injury.
