Hughton dismisses Solanke to Brighton links

Brighton and Hove Albion will not be pursuing a January deal to sign Dominic Solanke from Liverpool, according to manager Chris Hughton.

The Seagulls were among a host of clubs linked with a swoop for the England Under-21 international, whose short-term future at Anfield has come under scrutiny in recent times.

Crystal Palace were believed to have been leading the race to sign Solanke but boss Roy Hodgson has since confirmed that no deal is on the table between the Eagles and the Reds.

This appeared to present Brighton with a chance to recruit the former Chelsea youngster, who has failed to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans on Merseyside this season.

However, when quizzed about the club’s chances of securing a temporary deal for Solanke, Seagulls boss Hughton was dismissive. As quoted by Sky Sports, he said:

At this moment I think we would be doing very minimal business if any at all.

I think our recent recruitment, in particular, the last couple of windows, holds us in good stead. At this moment I don’t think we need to improve the squad.

What possibly might happen is one or two players going out on loan – certainly from the U23s. That is probably more of a possibility than someone coming in.

Huddersfield Town and clubs from the Bundesliga are reportedly still pondering loan moves for the 21-year-old.
