Inside story on how Mo Salah has helped change lives in Egypt

Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has been heaped with praise by several individuals from his home country and those closest to him have explained how he uses his position as a footballer to help others, as reported on the Liverpool Echo.

The Egyptian winger has not let the glamour of being a professional footballer make him forget his roots, with the 25-year-old paying millions for a school to be built in his home town.

Maher Shetia, the Mayor of Nagrig, which is a village in the Gharbiya province where Salah grew up, has said that the winger goes out of his way to give back to the community.

Shetia said:

Salah highlighted his small village on the international map. He also built a charity and will build a school that costs millions. This is in addition to his donations to Basioun hospital with a complete ventilation room, incubations and an ambulance unit.

Salah famously scored the goal to send Egypt to the 2018 World Cup finals and has made himself a national hero. Just for scoring that goal, Salah was offered a luxury villa by an Egyptian businessman, but the Liverpool forward kindly turned down the offer and suggested that the money be used in helping those in his village.

Such humility in a footballer is rare to find in the modern era, but Salah continues to try to live a normal life when he is back at home around his family.

His cousin Abadah Saeed Ghali says fame hasn’t affected Salah since his club record £36.9m move to Anfield last summer.

He said:

Salah comes to the village when possible and walks among the people and takes photos with them so modestly. All Egyptians, not only those of Nagrig or Gharbiya province, are proud of him.

It really is refreshing to see a footballer at the top of the game show such characteristics and he is the perfect role model for all young footballers.
