James Milner believes that keeping more clean sheets will be the key to Liverpool’s title challenge this season, according to a report on the Daily Mail.
The Liverpool midfielder managed to get his name on the scoresheet on Monday night as Jurgen Klopp’s men sealed a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Liverpool are the only side in the Premier League that has not conceded a goal after their opening two matches and Milner believes that if they are to push Manchester City for the title this year, then they need to stay solid at the back.
Palace had a few openings but Liverpool remained resolute to maintain their 100% winning start to the new campaign.
When asked if Liverpool are learning how to grind out results, Milner said:
That’s something we have to work on: winning all different types of games. We know with the players that we have got going forward if we keep those clean sheets then we’ve got every chance of nicking a goal at the other end.
So it comes from the ‘keeper and all the way through the back four and all the way through the team and the way we play, everyone defends together.
Liverpool’s man of the match against Palace was centre-back Virgil Van Dijk, who is one of the key reasons that Klopp’s side are so solid in defence.
