Jamie Carragher reveals the three additions Liverpool must make this summer

Jamie Carragher has perfectly outlined the three additions Liverpool need to make to their starting lineup this summer.

The Reds are in a bad place at the moment, following Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at home to Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s champions now look to be scrapping for a top-four finish between now and May, rather than defending their crown.

Speaking on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football [via the Liverpool Echo], Carragher said Liverpool must add three regular starters to the team ahead of next season:

They need three players to come in, they need that centre-back, maybe he’s here now in Kabak. Someone to replace Wijnaldum and they need someone in the front three and I’m not talking about players on the bench.

I’m talking about players to come into the team, like Matip, Wijnaldum and Mane did and like Salah, Van Dijk and Alisson did. That’s what Liverpool need.

Carragher is spot on in his assessment, with Liverpool desperately in need of freshening things up in their starting XI.

There are signs of fatigue setting in in a side that has played so much football in the last three years or so – it is only right that top class new faces arrive.

As Carragher alludes to, bringing in squad players won’t cut the mustard and they need to be individuals who are good enough to start every week.

Someone like Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland would be ideal, for example, bringing more world-class quality to the attack and making Roberto Firmino have to work incredibly hard to feature regularly.

The Norwegian is stunning young footballer, scoring 38 goals in just 40 appearances for Dortmund.
