Liverpool defender Joel Matip will be sweating over his fitness after hobbling off with an injury in the club’s pre-season friendly with Borussia Dortmund.
Matip has been a fundamental part of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season preparations so far this summer, with Dejan Lovren enjoying an extended break following his exploits at the World Cup.
However, in the Reds’ first outing of their tour of the US, Matip was forced off early on with what appeared to be a thigh injury. Joe Gomez was called upon to replace him.
Matip was unable to make it past the 20-minute mark and was left with no other choice but to exit the pitch, with concerns again raised over his fitness.
The central defender endured a difficult campaign with injuries last term and only recently returned to full first-team training with the squad.
It seems Matip is now faced with yet another injury concern, which is sure to come as a blow to Klopp as he continues to gear his Reds side up for the upcoming season.
