Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Joe Gomez has suffered a setback in his recovery.
As per Liverpool’s official website, Jurgen Klopp confirmed the player is ‘a couple of weeks’ away still.
We have to wait, for sure, a couple of weeks. We will see, it is difficult to judge in the moment.
We thought three weeks ago he would be closer and then we had to make another diagnosis in which we saw that it didn’t work out so far as we wanted, that’s why he is still not in training or running on the pitch.
The Reds had been hoping that the defender would be closing in on his return to full fitness in the near future, but he is now requiring more time than first anticipated.
Gomez suffered a lower leg fracture during Liverpool’s win over Burnley back in December and his absence has left the Reds suffering from a minor injury crisis at the back.
Klopp has been forced to juggle his squad carefully in recent weeks to avoid any further injuries.
Fabinho has been forced to play as a makeshift central defender and the Brazilian has impressed during his short stint at the back, however, the Reds will no doubt welcome Gomez back into the side as soon as possible.
