Liverpool to battle Man Utd for Jean Michael Seri

With Emre Can all-but-confirmed to be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires in June, the Reds will likely enter the market for another central midfielder despite the arrival of Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig in July.

Reports have surfaced that Liverpool are considering a summer move for £32m-rated OGC Nice standout Jean Michael Seri, but will face competition from rivals Manchester United for his signature.

Both Premier League clubs have dispatched scouts to watch the impressive 26-year-old in action for the Ligue 1 club this season with a view to making an official offer for him in the summer.

Seri enjoyed a breakthrough season with Nice last term, netting seven goals and tallying 10 assists to help his side qualify for the Champions League and came very close to joining Barcelona last summer if reports are to be believed.

Liverpool’s interest in another central midfielder was pretty much confirmed by their failed move for the now Bayern-bound Leon Goretzka, but Seri is one of several midfielders the Reds are tracking.

In recent weeks, Lyon starlet Houssem Aouar has emerged on Liverpool’s radar along with Barcelona, while Napoli’s combative midfielder Jorginho – who has also been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United – has been shortlisted by the Reds as a potential replacement for Emre Can who is being chased by Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
