Liverpool close to an agreement for Thomas Lemar

Despite reports surfacing last month from the Liverpool Echo that Liverpool were no longer interested in signing Thomas Lemar from Monaco, claims from the French media have insisted that’s not the case.

Liverpool were said to be fearful of how much a move for Lemar could cost them, given the widespread interest in him, and seemingly pulled out of the race but Le10 Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, suggest otherwise.

The report claims that the Reds had made some good moves in regards to reaching a deal with Monaco to sign the attacking midfielder, and even go on to suggest than an agreement in principle for Lemar’s transfer is close to being agreed.

Monaco were reportedly quoting a £90m figure back in January for the 22-year-old and it’s unknown whether they have budged on that asking price, but Liverpool are close to meeting their demands, whatever they stand at, the report suggests.

Lemar has scored three goals and provided eight assists so far this season for Monaco and is that left-sided creative midfielder Liverpool have been searching for after the sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January.

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal were also said to be interested in signing Lemar in January but it appears as if Liverpool are closing in on his signature.
