Liverpool keeping a close eye on Max Meyer

Liverpool are tracking Germany’s Max Meyer at the European Under-21s tournament in Poland, ahead of a potential transfer this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The young playmaker has also been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham, with clubs in Italy, France and Spain also monitoring the Schalke midfielder’s situation.

Meyer only has 12 months left on his current contract, and has reportedly refused to extend his deal beyond 2018. With plenty of clubs looking at Meyer, Schalke are preparing to listen to offers shy of £20m, something Juregen Klopp may jump at the chance of paying for such a talented young player.

Meyer, 21, is hoping to play Champions League football next season with the World Cup just 12 months away, something the Reds can offer the youngster.

The playmaker wants an opportunity to impress German head coach Joachim Loew on Europe’s biggest stage, potentially then earning himself a place in his national side with a strong campaign before the tournament in Russia.
