The Saints made a last-minute swoop to recruit the English forward, who has been angling for a move away from Anfield for the duration of the summer transfer window.
Ings is intent on playing first-team football on a more regular basis in the forthcoming season, with game time under Jurgen Klopp proving to be hard to come by on Merseyside.
A host of Premier League clubs had been linked with moves for Ings but Southampton have won the race, with a loan deal agreed with Liverpool that will be made permanent next summer. It’s believed that Saints will pay the Reds £16m in July 2019, with a sell-on clause also included in the deal.
Liverpool wanted to receive a transfer fee of £20m for Ings, but they have been forced to settle for a loan deal at this moment in time before receiving a transfer fee further down the line.
