Liverpool reportedly expressed a summer interest in Saint-Maximin

Liverpool were keen to sign Allan Saint-Maximin during the summer transfer window, according to reports from France.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a strong debut season with OGC Nice following his departure from AS Monaco and seemingly piqued the interest of clubs from across Europe.

Saint-Maximin, who arrived at Nice for a fee worth just €10 million, scored on five occasions last season in all competitions and contributed with nine assists for his side.

It’s reported that contact was initiated with Saint-Maximin’s agent Stéphane Courbis as Liverpool continued to pursue wingers to act as deputies for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

However, after Nice insisted that their prized asset would not be departing during the summer transfer window, the Reds reportedly turned their attention to Stoke star Xherdan Shaqiri and tied up a deal for the Swiss international.
