Liverpool have reportedly made an offer to sign Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij as they look at alternative options from Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in Italy, via the Express.
With Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola showing a real interest in Klopp’s long-term target van Dijk from Southampton, the Reds boss is having to look elsewhere with the possibility that van Dijk chooses City over a move to Anfield in mind.
De Vrij, 25, is out of contract with Lazio at the end of the current season, and Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have acted quickly by making respective offers for the Dutch international, while Juventus and Barcelona remain interested in the highly rated defender.
Jurgen Klopp seemingly still doesn’t know his best central defender pairing, with many of his defenders coming under major criticism from the media, and a defender seems to be at the top of the list as the January window opens next week.
