Liverpool set for two pre-season clashes with City and United

Liverpool are reportedly set to face both Manchester United and Manchester City in pre-season friendlies later this year.

The Liverpool Echo claims that the Reds will feature as part of the International Champions Cup this summer.

The tournament has become a regular feature for Premier League sides, featuring other European heavyweights such as Inter, Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in recent years.

The tournament has attracted huge crowds in the past and the 82,000 capacity MetLife Stadium has been earmarked as a potential venue for Liverpool’s clashes with their Premier League rivals.

Despite the long air miles that come with travelling to America, the tournament is seen a lucrative opportunity for clubs commercially in a bid to widen their global fan base.

Liverpool featured in the Audi Cup and the Premier League Asia Trophy during their preparations this season, including games against Crystal Palace and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a productive pre-season campaign in a bid to build upon the Reds’ impressive season this year.
