Liverpool are in talks to sign winger Gelson Martins from Sporting Lisbon, with Jurgen Klopp convinced a bid in the region of £40 million pounds will be enough, according to the BBC.
Martins, 22, has been a stand out performer for Sporting this season and has a buyout clause of £50million, with Liverpool reportedly regularly scouting Martins during the previous campaign.
The winger was involved in 21 goals last season, chipping in with 14 assists and scoring seven himself. With Klopp on the lookout for a quick wide player, Martins definitely fits the bill. The Reds are also keeping tabs on Lazio’s Keita Balde and Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa.
With Liverpool back in the Champions League for the first time since the 2014/15 season, they are in need of quality reinforcements for the upcoming season as they look to mount a serious challenge in both Europe and domestic competitions.
Whether Martins is an alternative for reported target Mohamed Salah or an additional buy remains to be seen. The BBC think Liverpool might be getting priced out of a move for Salah, hence moving on to Martins.
