Liverpool transfer news as £240k-per-week defender’s rejection confirmed

Liverpool’s backline has emerged as a big talking point over the course of the summer transfer window.

After Ibrahima Konate’s departure on a free transfer, the Reds opted to refrain from dipping into the transfer market as they had already agreed a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet.

With the Frenchman, Virgil van Dijk, Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez, it appeared as if Andoni Iraola would be well covered at the back.

However, Leoni is still at least a few weeks away from returning from his ACL injury, while Gomez only lasted seven minutes during Liverpool’s first pre-season game.

The Reds have now taken emergency action with the loan signing of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona.

But reports from the Netherlands confirm they wanted to sign Micky van de Ven from Tottenham before his extension.

Liverpool failed with Micky van de Ven move

De Telegraaf report that the Reds showed ‘concrete interest’ in signing the Dutch international when it initially looked like he would move on from Tottenham.

However, Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival breathed new life into the Lilywhites, which led to a change of heart for Van de Ven.

He is now tied down at the club until 2029 and the same report confirms that he will earn around £240k-per-week, making him one of Tottenham’s highest-paid players.

Van de Ven is someone Liverpool wanted before he moved to Tottenham, so we’re not surprised by these links in the slightest.
