Liverpool will need to spend big to land Lucas Paqueta

Flamengo reportedly want to tie down Lucas Paqueta to an improved contract, amid interest from Liverpool.

It’s claimed by Brazilian news outlet Lance that the Reds, who are understood to be keen on a summer deal for the midfielder, want to tie their star man down to a new deal, which will include an increased release clause.

Paqueta’s existing deal at Flamengo is believed to entail a release clause priced at €50m, which would still be a sizable outlay for Liverpool if they were to pursue a deal for the player.

However, Lance indicate that in the proposed new deal for Paqueta, a release clause of €80m will be set in an attempt to ward off any potential suitors in the near future.

Paqueta has been catching the eye of European clubs and was included in Tite’s provisional 35-man squad for the World Cup. However, the Brazil boss did not decide to take the attacking midfielder to the tournament in Russia.

Flamengo appear to be desperate to retain the services of their playmaker and it seems Liverpool will need to spend big if they are to land him this summer.
