Southampton boss Mark Hughes believes Liverpool are in a strong position to push for the Premier League title this season.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, the Saints manager spoke to the media ahead of his side’s trip to Anfield this weekend and was quizzed on whether or not he felt the Reds could win the Premier League this term.
I think they are at a point in their development where they clearly need to go for the Premier League title now.
They probably don’t want to say that publicly but I’d imagine – given they haven’t won it for 28 years – that would be one thing that they would like to put to bed and win if they can.
Liverpool have enjoyed a perfect start to the new season. They have won their first five Premier League fixtures and find themselves level on points with Chelsea, who sit at the top of the table only by goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are in the middle of a hectic schedule in September but will head into the game against Southampton as clear favourites following their exceptional start to the campaign.
Hughes and his Saints side, however, will know that they can play without pressure at Anfield, as they look to achieve a surprise result on Merseyside.
You have to say their first XI is very, very strong, as strong as any team in the league but now their squad – which will sustain them throughout the season – that now looks really strong as well, so that could be the difference for them this year.
