Matip out for six weeks after breaking collarbone during Napoli win

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has been ruled out for six weeks after breaking his collarbone during the 1-0 win over Napoli.

Paul Joyce of The Times has confirmed that the defender has delivered a huge injury blow to Jurgen Klopp on what was a crucial evening for the Reds.

Klopp’s men secured qualification into the next round but the injury news to Matip will bring everyone at the club back down to earth.

The news follows Joe Gomez’s recent injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for a similar amount of time.

This leaves Liverpool with something of a defensive crisis, with there still being some concerns surrounding the fitness of Dejan Lovren.

Klopp may be forced into fast-forwarding the Croatian’s recovery in order to get him back in the team.

The injuries could not have come at a worse time for Liverpool, with Manchester United travelling to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
