The Champions League winners instead went on to hire then Spain boss Julen Lopetegui, who now finds himself under increasing pressure in the job.

After losing Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer, Madrid have struggled to adapt this season and a poor run of form has left questions being raised about Lopetegui’s position at the club.
