Sheyi Ojo plots international switch to Nigeria

Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo has admitted that it will be an “honour” to declare for Nigeria if the Super Eagles show that they want him, according to a report on Football Ghana.

Ojo has represented England at youth levels and played a key role as they won the 2017 Under-20 World Cup.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan to French side Reims and is eligible to play for Nigeria because both of his parents are Nigerians.

Ojo is yet to make a senior appearance for England, meaning that he still has the chance to switch nationalities.

When speaking about the situation, Ojo said:

To be honest, I don’t know much about it (Nigeria interest), but if they call me I’d be honoured to go to Nigeria.

It’s obviously a massive nation. I’m just really focused on club football at the moment, but I’m excited for the future, both club and country.

My parents are originally from Nigeria as well, so they know a lot about it. They’ve always been keen on the idea but so far I’ve mainly been focusing on club football.

It’s starting to get to the time where I have to start thinking about my future. And of course, if Nigeria were to call me now it would be an honour.

Ojo is well known for his pace and is tipped to have a bright future by the Merseyside club, who have sent him on loan to gain more game time and experience.
