Southampton legend Francis Benali unsure of Adam Lallana return

Southampton legend Francis Benali is unsure whether or not out of favour Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana would be welcome back at St Mary’s, the Daily Star report.

The 30-year-old ended his 14-year association with the Saints in 2014 by joining the Reds for £25m.

Since then, Lallana has turned out over 100 times in the Premier League for Liverpool, however, the playmaker has gradually started to fall out of favour under Jurgen Klopp in recent years.

Lallana has made just 16 appearances in all competitions this season, and with his contract up at the end of June 2020, many believe the Reds could look to cash in on the midfielder in the summer.

Former club Southampton may well be just one of the clubs interested in the Englishman’s services this summer, however, former Saints defender Benali is unsure if a move would be welcome by Southampton supporters.

It’s a difficult situation for him to get back in the team. It’s a scenario that many players would find difficult.

But what would be the tough thing is would the supporters welcome players [like Lallana] back to the club?

It’s a relationship between the two clubs that has certainly spiked the nerves of Southampton fans with a lot of our top players leaving for Liverpool.

I just like to see good, talented and passionate players that want to play for Southampton – playing for my team.

However that happens, I’m quite open to anything.

Lallana made over 230 appearances for Southampton and played a vital role in taking the club from League One to the Premier League, however, it appears as if a move back to the Saints may not be welcomed on the south coast.
