Van Dijk content with Liverpool’s win at Leicester

Virgil van Dijk was left content by Liverpool’s narrow win at Leicester City on Saturday but warned that there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Speaking to the club’s official website after helping the Reds to a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium, the Netherlands international admitted that the team eased off and didn’t perform accordingly in some periods of the match.

We had moments that we needed to do much better, but we should be pleased with the win.  We should not be pleased with the way, at times, we played. We should’ve done much better and made it a bit easier for ourselves, but overall some of the players today have been outstanding and we got the win so we’re happy.

Van Dijk played a part in Liverpool’s fourth consecutive win of the season against Leicester as the club maintained their 100% record in the Premier League so far.

Those moments are very important. You need to get the win over the line and they’re going to try everything, especially at the end. We need to be on our toes, be ready, and it’s good that we are.

Liverpool took the lead early on as Andy Robertson found Sadio Mane, who dispatched past Kasper Schmeichel. The lead was then doubled by Roberto Firmino, who netted his first goal of the new season.

Leicester pulled a goal back after a calamitous mistake from Alisson, as Rachid Ghezzal converted into an empty net.

Nevertheless, the Reds came away with yet another important victory on the road. Van Dijk will be hoping to see a marked improvement in the team’s performance after the international break when they face Tottenham Hotspur.
