Virals: Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino out for ‘at least’ two weeks

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is expected to undergo ‘further assessment on a hamstring injury suffered against Chelsea over the weekend.

The Brazilian was forced off before half-time at Anfield and had a scan to discover the extent of the issue on Monday.

Those results would appear to not be conclusive, however, and the 67 Premier League goal 29-year-old will now face more tests in order to establish a realistic time frame.

That’s according to a report from the Liverpool Echo and Paul Joyce on Twitter.

The report claims Firmino will be absent for ‘at least’ a couple of weeks and the club will be striving to get their man back for the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

This blow comes on a transfer deadline day at the end of a window whereby the club has focussed on contract renewals as opposed to new signings.

So far the only first-team signing has come in the shape of central defender Ibrahima Konate, whilst Xhedan Shaqiri, Gini Wijnaldum and Harry Wilson all left the club on a permanent basis.

Any prolonged injury layoff has to be viewed as a major issue in the attacking department this season.

As things stand the Reds are now down to a front three of Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, backed up by the relatively unproven duo Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.

Clearly, Firmino remains a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans and the German will hope to have the flamboyant Brazil ace back sooner rather than later.
