Virals: Report claims Liverpool set for Philippe Coutinho windfall

Liverpool could be in line to receive one final transfer windfall from the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder was finally granted a move to the Catalan giants in 2018 after months of speculation.

At the time the reported fee was an eye-watering £142million (The Guardian).

However, conflicting reports since have debated as to whether the fee was paid in full or if certain stipulations are still to be met.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport.es, as cited by Football Transfers on Twitter claims that the 29-year-old is 10 appearances away from triggering the next instalment.

The report claims that Liverpool are set to receive £17million should Coutinho make the 10 outings required in the near future.

Things haven’t gone to plan for the 63-cap star since arriving in Spain as injuries and a loss of form saw the former Inter Milan man head out on a season-long loan to Bayern Munich.

Despite a knee injury and subsequent lack of fitness ruling Coutinho out of the opening weeks this season, manager Ronald Koeman is believed to be open to handing the ex-Red an opportunity this term.

Back towards full fitness and with UEFA Champions League action on the horizon, between now and Christmas it is eminently possible the Brazilian will rack up the required appearances.

Seemingly eternally linked with a sensational return to Anfield, it appears now the biggest benefit left in the connection could be one final transfer windfall.

Often the club prioritises the need for incoming fees before spending in the market, meaning this could come as a timely bonus before the January transfer window opens.

Now valued at £27million after a difficult 24 months (Transfermarkt), had the ‘little magician’ stay where he was loved we could be looking at a wholly different career trajectory.

matchday.
