Virals: Troy Deeney claims Liverpool trio lack scoring ‘instinct’

Liverpool have long since been reliant on their incredible front three to fire them to success, more often than not coming up with the required goods.

This season has seen the Reds falter in their defence of the Premier League title, as well as stuttering to make the top-four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League as things stand.

Part of the problem has been a failure to kill off matches despite dominating, in particular at Anfield, with Saturday’s 1-1 draw a carbon copy of numerous home games this season.

Whilst defensive injury issues have far from helped matters, Mohamed Salah‘s 20 league goals aside, there’s little doubt the usually ever-reliable trio have dipped below their high standards.

Watford captain Troy Deeney told talkSPORT that despite the numbers posted in previous campaigns, Liverpool’s fearsome front three are no naturals in front of goal.

They’re not natural goalscorers, any of the four. (Roberto) Firmino, I think he’s excellent, but he’s not someone who’s going to get 25, 28 goals a season. Salah is a winger and you can see that, look at Newcastle, how many chances did he miss?

Deeney went on to say the trio were ‘more creative’ players than finishers and Salah gets a host of chances

Having earned promotion back to the Premier League at the weekend, Deeney can look forward to meeting Liverpool’s front three next term.

Unfortunately for the striker, Salah’s eight goals in just four matches against the Hornets may suggest his finishing sharpens up whenever the two clubs meet.

matchday.
