Xavi unsure if Alisson can stop ‘greatest of all time’ Messi

Barcelona legend Xavi has admitted that he is unsure if Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson can stop Lionel Messi from scoring over the two legs of their Champions League semi-final.

The Brazilian keeper, who arrived at Anfield from Roma last summer, has been a standout performer for the Reds this season, conceding just 20 goals in 36 Premier League appearances.

Alisson has also produced a series of consistent displays in the Champions League, which has resulted in Jurgen Klopp’s side making the last four.

And talking to the Mirror, in an article relayed by the Liverpool Echo, Xavi, who played alongside Messi for over a decade, admitted he is unsure if Alisson can stop the Argentine over the two legs.

Messi is still the best player on the planet and greatest of all time.

This season he is doing incredible things and showing such hunger.

Alisson is a very good goalkeeper and is going to have to produce one of his best performances if he wants to stop Messi – but I am not sure that will be possible.

Alisson and his Liverpool teammates will be hoping for a fifth European clean sheet this season in the Camp Nou, which could provide the platform for the Reds to make it to the Champions League final once again.
