Liverpool have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of the first leg of their Champions League quarter final tie with Manchester City as Emre Can has yet to resume training due to his back injury.
Can was substituted with the injury when Liverpool hammered Watford 5-0 a few weeks ago, but when he joined up with the German national side, many presumed that he must be close to a return to full fitness.
However, he withfrew from the squad and went on to miss the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend and he’s yet to resume training ahead of the City game.

The German has been a key player for the Reds all season and despite his ongoing contract dispute, he’s continued to play at a high level. If fit, it almost certain that he’d be starting the game against Pep Guardiola’s men, but that now seems unlikely.
With Adam Lallana injured, Liverpool’s midfield options are starting to look a bit thin on the ground, which is not ideal going into a busy week that contains two games against City and a Merseyside Derby.
