Gini Wijnaldum once again sat out of Liverpool’s training session in Qatar on Friday, meaning that the Dutchman is now highly unlikely to play any part in the Club World Cup final against Flamengo on Saturday.
Wijnaldum was forced off with a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Watford last weekend.
The injury wasn’t deemed as serious as first thought, and as such, unlike some of Liverpool’s other injured players, he flew out with the rest of his teammates to Qatar.
However, the Dutch international has been unable to take part in any of Liverpool’s training sessions on the mini-tour, meaning that he is now highly unlikely to play any type of role in Saturday’s final.
Liverpool were forced to name just seven substitutes, including two goalkeepers, for their semi-final clash with Monterrey, but having flown out the likes of Ki-Jana Hoever, Sepp Van den Berg and Harvey Elliott, they should now have more strength in depth for the final.
With the chance of appearing in Saturday’s game now looking very much in doubt, Wijnaldum will be hoping to prove his fitness for the top of the table clash with Leicester City on Boxing Day.
