Klopp focusing on positives following United draw

Jurgen Klopp is choosing to focus on the one point gained over Manchester City rather than seeing Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United as two points dropped.

Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League following the stalemate and are a point clear of title rivals City.

And speaking to the club’s official website after the draw, Klopp revealed he was happy with the point when asked whether he sees the result as two points dropped or one point gained. He said:

It’s both, obviously. We have a point more and that’s good. I think before the game, the shape United was in before, a lot of people would have expected it is the worst moment to face United.

Liverpool started the quicker of the two sides at Old Trafford before injuries hampered proceedings as four players were substituted in the first half with respective knocks.

Roberto Firmino picked up an ankle injury and was replaced just after the half-hour mark by Daniel Sturridge, while Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard, who replaced Mata himself, all limped off before the interval.

And Klopp revealed the stoppages in play disrupted Liverpool’s rhythm in what he described as a “strange” match. He said:

When we started the game it was brilliant actually, we started exactly like we wanted to start: it was direct, we played in behind, we wanted to be there, we followed the ball, we pressed high and it was all really good. And then the injury crisis started.

A lot of interruptions and things like that and it was obvious it cost us the rhythm. I don’t say it should happen, but it happened obviously and I cannot explain exactly why. It was a completely strange game, playing around without really speed.
