Liverpool expect Lazar Markovic to leave the club this week

Liverpool expect Lazar Markovic to leave this week, as per the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.

Twitter: #LFC still expect Lazar Markovic to leave the club in the next week. Out of contract next summer. (@JamesPearceEcho)

Markovic arrived at Liverpool in 2014 after the Reds paid Benfica a massive £20m for the Serbian. However, he has never been able to prove his worth and after numerous loan spells, it looks like he is finally going to leave the club on a permanent basis.

Aged 24, Markovic will still be hopeful of resurrecting his stalling career elsewhere. Olympiakos were linked with the forward last month but there has not been any bid accepted at this stage.

With Markovic set to become a free agent in the summer, Liverpool would like to get a fee for him before the end of the month, but they’ll know that they will only get a fraction of the amount they paid for him back in 2014.
