Despite the fact that he still plays in Serie B, Italy manager Roberto Mancini called Tonali up to the national team in November. Although the youngster did not play in any of the games at the time, he did train with the likes of Lorenzo Insigne and Marco Verratti and reportedly made a big impression on the group.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, as translated by Sport Witness, Cellino confirmed that Liverpool were one of the clubs who declared an interest in teenager around the time he was called up by Italy.

When asked about interested parties, he said:

Liverpool have called me a little while ago.

Roma are also named as another club interested in Tonali, but Cellino says that he will only sell him to the “right” club for the player, and not just the one who offers the largest amount of money to the Brescia.
