Liverpool remain keen on deal for Nicolo Barella

Liverpool remain interested in a deal to sign Cagliari star Nicolo Barella, according to Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Francesco Velluzzi.

Throughout the year, the Reds have been linked with a move for the promising Italian midfielder and their interest has been reaffirmed by Velluzzi, who claims that they are among five teams that are looking at Barella.

Liverpool are well-stocked with midfield options but have been linked with a move for Barella for many months now, indicating that their interest in signing the player may be genuine.

As quoted by the Express, Velluzzi discussed Cagliari’s summer dealings with RMC Sport recently and Barella was a topic of conversation, as the reporter revealed the degree of interest in the Italy Under-21 international.

Liverpool aren’t the only team in the race for Barella, it seems, and stiff competition could come from AS Roma and Lyon in the near future.

Inter currently does not have an urgent need to try to buy Barella, unless they sell [Matias] Vecino. There is also Roma at stake, there are also Lyon, Liverpool and perhaps Atletico Madrid.

The Reds aren’t likely to make another summer signing following their successful pursuit of Roma goalkeeper Alisson, but Barella continues to be linked with a switch to Anfield.
