Liverpool youngster Tom Clayton will miss the rest of the season as he undergoes surgery, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The defender, who currently plays for the Reds’ Under-18 side, has been troubled by a foot problem this season and will now have work done on the injury.
The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract in recent times and the club appear to rate the player highly.
Clayton has been in Liverpool’s academy since he was eight-years-old and the versatile defender made his debut for the U18s under Steven Gerrard during the 2017/18 season.
The academy graduate’s absence for the remainder of the campaign will be a big miss for manager Barry Lewtas, whose side are currently top of the Northern Under-18 Premier League.
The Reds youngsters suffered a setback in their quest for silverware in three competitions this season as they lost 3-2 against Manchester United’s U18s in Saturday’s Premier League Cup quarter-final.
Clayton has featured for Scotland at a youth international level.
