Rhian Brewster a doubt for Aston Villa clash

Rhian Brewster a doubt for Aston Villa clash

Liverpool could be without striker Rhian Brewster for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Brewster, who started the previous two Carabao Cup games, against MK Dons and Arsenal, was due to lead the line for the Reds against Villa but he is now a doubt after picking up an ankle injury in training.

Brewster is one of the few players orignally scheduled to be available to play on Tuesday who has first-team experience, with the established players in the squad over in Qatar to play in the Club World Cup.

However, Liverpool’s U23 manager Neil Critchley, who’ll be in charge for the game at Villa Park, says that the 19-year-old is a doubt due to a knock.

He said:

He’s got a knock so he’s doubtful. We’re assessing him today, fingers crossed he makes it. We’ll see.

Putting any weight of expectation on the youngsters who’ll face Villa would be unfair given that it’ll essentially be a youth team facing a Premier League side.

However slim their chances of getting a result are, they will be even slimmer without Brewster, who would have started the game upfront.

The likelihood is that the Reds will lose the game, but not having Brewster available will make it even tougher for the youngsters.
