Virgil van Dijk Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Monterrey in the Club World Cup semi-final due to illness and after the game, Jurgen Klopp admitted that he was unsure if the Dutchman would be able to play in the final against Flamengo on Saturday afternoon.
However, it looks like the Dutchman is on the road to recovery from his illness as he took part in some fitness work earlier today.
Van Dijk also completed media duties for the club by being part of an interview conducted by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, which one would expect he wouldn’t have done if he still feel ill.
With Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Fabinho all injured and with Van Dijk unwell, Liverpool used Jordan Henderson at centre-back against Monterrey, but they’ll be hoping not to have to do that in the final.
The Reds have flown Ki-Jana Hoever out to Qatar as cover and he could be a potential option, but Klopp will be hopeful that Van Dijk will be fit enough to start the game.
