According to Dave O’Connell, Virgil van Dijk did not train with the rest of his Liverpool teammates on Thursday as he flew to the Netherlands to meet the Dutch royal family.
A few eagle-eyed Liverpool fans may have noticed that the centre-back was absent from Thursday’s session but thankfully, the £75m star had good reason to be away from Melwood and thankfully, there was no health or injury reason why he wasn’t with his teammates.

Liverpool seem pretty accommodating when it comes to letting players attend various events and as such, it’s no surprise that Van Dijk was given the green light to fly home to the Netherlands.
With the game against City not until Sunday afternoon, there’s plenty of time for Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff to implement their game plan for the big match and Van Dijk will be back in time to attend those sessions.
Plus, a little break might do the big man good as he plays pretty much every week!
