Werner given warning over potential Liverpool move

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is stalling on signing a new contract amidst reports of interest from Liverpool, the Liverpool Echo report.

Werner had been linked with a potential move to Merseyside in January, as well as Leipzig’s Bundesliga counterparts Bayern Munich, sparking rumours of the German looking to pursue a move away.

The 22-year-old, who is out of contract with Leipzig at the end of next season, has been told to make a decision on his future by the end of the current campaign.

Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick has sounded a warning to Werner, however, stating a move to the Premier League may not be the best thing for him and used his former teammate Naby Keita as an example.

Keita moved from Leipzig to Liverpool last summer in a £52million move but has struggled to replicate the fine form he showed in the Bundesliga during his first season in the Premier League, as Rangnick eludes too.

Keita was an outstanding player here, but he’s still struggling in Liverpool. So far, he’s not the player there that he was here. The surroundings must be right for Timo. That’s the case here.

Werner has been in impressive form in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 11 times in 19 appearances.
