Xherdan Shaqiri is set to become the fourth player in Liverpool’s Premier League history to wear the number 23 shirt.
We understand that the Swiss star has chosen the number ahead of his announcement as a Liverpool player.
The 26-year-old flew into Liverpool on Thursday evening ahead of his medical on Friday after the Reds chose to activate the release clause in his Stoke City contract.

Shaqiri will become the fourth Liverpool player in the Premier League era to wear the 23 shirt. Club legend Robbie Fowler wore the number when he first broke into the Liverpool side. When he changed his number to nine, another club legend, Jamie Carrager, took the number and wore it for the entirity of his Liverpool career.
When Carragher retired, the number remained unused for a season before Emre Can took it. Can’s summer departure left the number free for Shaqiri to take.
