Liverpool reportedly interested in Lazio’s £63m-rated midfield general as Wijnaldum replacement

This summer will prove pivotal for the Reds if they are to try and return to Premier League glory next season.

Liverpool kicked off last season as English champions, attempting to retain their coveted title.

However, this summer, the club seem intent of increasing the quality of the overall squad in the market.

This has led to plenty of players being linked with a move, especially in midfield due to a certain departure.

This past week has seen Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum officially leave the club for PSG, leaving a huge whole in midfield.

The likes of Saúl Ñíguez, Florian Neuhaus, Houssem Aouar, and Youri Tielemans have all been linked with the Reds.

Another name has now entered the mix as a supposed ‘perfect Wijnaldum replacement’ according to reports in Italy.

According to reports, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are interested in Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić.

The Serbian has been a regular for the Italian side since joining in 2015, growing in ability and leadership.

Reports from Italian outlet Il Messaggero, Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing the 26-year-old to Anfield.

However, the report also suggests that a ‘monstrous’ offer would be needed to sign the Serbian, making a move unlikely.

Milinković-Savić currently has a market value of £63million according to Transfermarkt, hence the proposed offer.

There is no denying the 26-year-olds talent, given his numbers from midfield for Lazio over the last six years.

As well as this, it is true that he could easily make the perfect Wijnaldum replacement, but a move seems unrealistic.

With Liverpool preparing to operate with limited finances this summer, the club need to sell players to fund activity.
